You may be debating whether or not to invest the money into a brand new electric skateboard.
Whether it’s for you or a gift for someone, it’s still an investment.
Let’s face it…
Electric skateboards are expensive! Very expensive…
To buy a good board, you have to invest at least $400.
If you want to buy a popular brand name like Boosted or Evolve, you could spend anywhere from $750 to $2,000.
With that money you could buy a cheap car, a brand new iPhone, or a tropical vacation in the Bahamas! (I’m probably not being a good electric skateboard salesman right now).
The truth is, I don’t want anyone to purchase an electric skateboard, use it for a few months, and then have it in a garage or closet for the rest of it’s life.
You’ll end up wasting money, the board will be a waste, while the company who manufactured the board laughs all the way to the bank…
If you want to buy an electric skateboard, do it because you know you’ll put it to good use.
First Decide Your Intent
Why are you buying the board?
That’s the first major question you must answer.
Here are a few sample questions you should ask yourself after:
- ○Is this board just for fun/enjoyment?
- ○Will I use it to commute to work or school?
- ○Have I ridden an electric skateboard before?
- ○Where do I live? (It is a good place to ride?)
- ○Am I buying it as a gift?
- ○If it is a gift, who is it for?
- ○Do I like skateboarding and outdoor activities?
They might be basic questions, but they’re pretty damn important when it comes down to it.
Seriously think about the questions and the purpose the board will serve in each answer you give.
The answers will help you determine if it’s truly worth buying a board.
Reasons To Buy An E-Board (When It’s Worth It)
You live in the city or suburbs
Bar none, the best place you can live and ride your electric skateboard is a busy and bustling place like the city.
With so many cars on the street, taking the car is a nightmare. Using an e-board means you don’t get stuck in traffic and you go way faster than walking.
The best part is you can carry your board onto public transportation like the bus, subway, or train.
And once you hop off public transit, you can get back to riding.
It sure as hell beats walking!
You need a better way to commute
Excuse my language, but commuting is becoming a pain in the ass…
I hated walking to the train station every morning to go to school.
Buy an electric skateboard, made things so much easier and faster!
I went from a 20 minute walk to a 5 minute ride, saving me time.
If you or a family member needs a more practical and fun way to commute, the electric skateboard is the way to go.
You’re going to college
College campuses are huge.
At some schools, it could take you 50+ minutes to walk from one side of the campus or the other.
Now there’s a good chance that these campuses have buses to shuttle kids around. But who wants to wait for a bus when you can go STRAIGHT to class on an electric skateboard!
No waiting, direct route, and easy to carry into your class/dorm.
That’s what I call practicality.
You like riding bikes
If you’re an outdoorsy guy/gal who likes to ride bikes, scooters, and regular (non-electric) skateboards… you’ll love an electric skateboard, period!
Not only are these things fast, but they are super easy to ride and control.
Adding these to your collection of things to ride in your garage will be well worth the investment and something you’ll enjoy for some time.
Reasons Not To Buy An E-Board (When It's Not Worth It)
You live in a rural area
Don’t get me wrong, you can certainly ride an electric skateboard almost anywhere, but rural areas are just too spacey.
Where would you ride your board to and from?
Unless it’s just for enjoyment, nowhere really.
The average electric skateboard has a range from 8-12 miles.
In rural areas and farm country, riding to somewhere and back can well exceed this range.
I just visited upstate New York a few weeks ago. Long roads and farmland lasted for miles. That’s no place to ride a board.
You just think they look cool
Everybody wants the newest iPhone, car, product, thanks to the pressure and social statuses in society…
If you want an electric skateboard just because it makes you look good riding it, save yourself the money.
You’re going to need a more practical reason to purchase one.
I personally think that electric skateboards are worth it...
But you have to be the right type of person to enjoy them.
If you're really debating whether or not to purchase one, just go for it!
At the end of the day, you can always sell your board on eBay again and get some of your money back!
