Living in the city can be tough!
And getting around can be even tougher. Crowded streets, subways, buses, and an influx of vehicles can make any city creates a world of chaos!
But you can beat this…
Move 7-8 times faster than you walk, weave through traffic, and avoid the lines. If you live in the city and haven’t considered an electric skateboard, now is the time to do so!
But not all electric skateboards are created equal.
That’s why we did the hard work for you. Scroll down for the best boards revealed for city riding!
What Makes A Good E-Board For The City?
There are many amazing electric skateboards out there.
But not all are created equal.
The city can be a rough and dangerous place, so picking the right board will not only improve your ride experience but keep you safe.
As someone who visits NYC quite often, I can attest that the streets are filled with:
- Dirt and debris
- And many more obstacles
Not all city streets are paved to perfection. In fact, most streets are tough and rigid. The slightest grooves and nicks in the pavement can make it an uncomfortable riding experience.
That’s why I recommend an electric skateboard that can take a little bit of a beating, something that’s a little more heavy duty.
While brands like Boosted, Inboard, Blitzart, Riptide are all fantastic boards and would provide a great experience in the city, I want something that can go almost anywhere rather than just the nice areas!
Best Option - Evolve Carbon GTR (All-Terrain or Street)
Evolve is the champagne of electric skateboards.
They are the best performing electric skateboards you can find.
And the Carbon GTR is the best of the Evolve boards.
Here are the stats:
- •Top Speed - 26 mph
- •Range - 31 miles
- •Incline Rate - 30%
- •Top Speed - 22 mph
- •Range - 19 miles
- •Incline Rate - 25%
You might be wondering why the Carbon comes with two different specs statistics. Well, that’s because the board offers two different sets of wheels you can purchase on their site.
One set specifically for ‘All-Terrain’ riding and one for ‘Street’ riding.
If you want to switch from one mode to the other, just a simple swap of the wheels and you’re ready to go!
If you know you’re going to ride in an area of the city with rough pavement, take the all-terrain wheels. If you’re riding down the nicely paved streets of Manhatten, take the street wheels.
The only downside to this board?
It costs a fortune… a $2,249 retail for both wheel set-ups.
But if you can save up for it, it’s well worth it.
Cheap Option - Meepo City Rider
Meepo is a very underrated Chinese brand that is up and coming,
If you can’t afford the Carbon GTR, give Meepo a look.
Let me tell you, they make some incredibly speedy boards with amazing range at the fraction of the price you would buy a board like Boosted or Evolve.
The City Rider is no exception.
It retails for $679…
And the performance is as follows:
- •Top Speed – 22 mph
- •Range – 15.5 miles
- •Incline Rate – 30%
Yes, the performance is fantastic.
But what makes this board earn its name (City Rider) is actually it’s 6-inch wheels.
Most boards have wheels of 3-inch diameter. The City Rider offers wheels double that size.
Add that and the fact that it offers two super powerful motors, and you’ll easily handle bumps, cracks, holes, and rough pavement.
Now, these wheels aren’t all-terrain, but they can easily glide through the broken streets of New York City (or any city for that matter).
And if you can’t ride the board for any reason, it comes with two handles on each side so you can easily carry it around.
This board is about 1/3 of the cost of the Carbon GTR listed above, and deserves heavy consideration! It’s a steal!
Unique/Fun Option – OneWheel+ XR
If you truly want a board that can ride anywhere, buy a Onewheel+ XR.
As the name suggests, this is a one-wheeled beast that carves up any type of terrain. And the best part is, no remote! Just lean forward to go and backward to slow down/stop.
It’s super easy to control and super fun to ride. And trust me, it’s not that hard to learn either.
Extremely unique, it’s unlike an electric skateboard you’ll ever see! (it’ll cause some heads to turn).
Here are the performance feats:
- •Top Speed – 19 mph
- •Range – 18 mile range
- •Incline Rate – 20-25%
Yes, this board is slower than the other two on the list. But 19 mph is still plenty fast… and it’s 18 mile range is absurdly good.
But the best part about this board is you can ride it pretty much anywhere. Not just the city, but even the woods and dirt paths as well.
The wheel it rides and balances on is 11 inches in diameter and is made of rubber. Nothing stands in the way of this beast. Not sticks, stones, or anything else.
